Classic Mint Julep
This recipe makes one serving.
2 sprigs fresh mint
½ oz simple syrup
2 dashes Fee Brothers’ mint bitters
2 ½ oz bourbon
2 more sprigs of mint for garnish
Wrap some ice in a clean kitchen towel and crush it with a mallet (you could also crush the ice in a food processor or blender). “Spank” the mint by clapping it together in your hands. This helps release its flavorful oils. Remove the leaves from the stems and add them to a julep cup or a highball glass along with the simple syrup and the bitters. Muddle gently. Add the bourbon and fill the glass 2/3 full with ice. Stir vigorously. Top off with more ice until the glass is very full. Garnish with the remaining mint and serve with a straw.
